Chia Chocolate Cinnamon Energy Balls
I love trying a new energy ball recipe every now and then and these are great - I especially love incoporating a chocolate flavour and sneaking in some turmeric, I find my kids enjoy these more for it. The softened chia seeds also help blend the mix to such a beautiful smooth texture.
Based on a recipe by Jamie Oliver, I have altered it a little, where rather than buying puffed quinoa I have soaked the same weight of chia seeds in the orange juice. Plus I vary the seeds depending on what I have in the cupbaord.

20g chia seeds
70g pumpkin seeds, can substitute and mix with sunflower seeds
1 orange, juiced
50g whole almonds
80g dates
½ tsp grd turmeric
½ tsp grd cinnamon
2 tsp cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ tablespoon lavender honey, or your favourite honey
Soak the chia seeds in the orange juice.
Blitz the pumpkin seeds – separate 40g onto a plate to roll the balls in later. Keeping 30g in the processer.
Add the almonds and dates, blitz again as fine as possible.
Add the turmeric, cinnamon, cocoa, vanilla, honey, and a pinch of salt if you like.
Blitz it for a few minutes – all depending how smooth you like the bliss balls. I like the smooth so I scrape the sides every now and then and keep going til I can see it is completely smooth and integrated – I find kids prefer this texture too,
Wet your hands, and scoop out large teaspoons of the mix and roll into neat balls, lowering them onto the plate with the seeds – you should make almost 20 balls depending on the size. Roll them all through the seeds to coat thoroughly.
Place in a single layer in fridge to firm up and store. I tend to just cover the plate I rolled them in with some cling film.
Makes 18 – 20 balls
